Founded in 1948 as the Associated Drilling Contractors, the
mission of the California Groundwater Association (CGA) is
caring for California's ground water resources; giving high
quality service to members and the public; and acting in the
best interests of the ground water industry. The CGA represents
water system contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, regulators,
geologists, hydrologists, engineers and others. The
organization is governed by a board of 26, 22 from the contractor/
technical division and four from the manufacturer/suppliers division.
The board is made up of officers from the organization's 12
branches.
As of August 1998, there were 194 contractor members, 67 technical
members, and 101 manufacturer and supplier members.
Committees of the CGA include Budget, Bylaws, Certification,
Convention, Executive, Fundraising, Insurance, Legislative,
Membership, NGWA Delegate, Nominating, Scholarships,
Seminar, Standards, Transportation, 50th Anniversary,
and Travel.
There is a newsletter, Groundwater Reflections,
issued three times a year (advertising), and an information flyer,
CGA Update, issued 3 times per year. Members also receive
a quarterly "Board Brief." CGA holds various seminars and an annual
convention. CGA supports the public education efforts of The American
Ground Water Trust and is also a member of the American Water Works
Association, the Association of California Water Agencies, the California
Water Awareness Campaign, and the Water Education Foundation.
The Association sponsors a worker's compensation program, as
well as general liability/property insurance program. Drilling and pump safety
video tapes are also produced by the Association.
The 1998 convention will be held November 12-14 at
Sacramento, California, and the 1999 Convention will be held in November at
Sparks (Reno), Nevada. Advertising is accepted for the convention program.

Founded in 1935 as the Florida Well Drillers Association
(Florida Water Association in 1972), the mission of the FGWA is
to promote and protect the ground water industry in Florida.
The FGWA represents water system contractors, manufacturers,
suppliers, and scientific and technical personnel. The
organization is governed by a board of 10. Any member may be a
director, but the officers must be contractors. FGWA acts as an
authority in the protection and management of Florida's ground
water resources. The diversity of its goals, objectives, and
achievements makes it unique among professional societies and
trade associations.
As of May 1997, there were 90 contractor members, 50 associate
members, and 85 technical members.
Committees of the FGWA include bylaws, convention, education,
finance, membership, awards, newsletter, nominating, publicity,
rules and regulations, safety, and technical. The FGWA offers
informational brochures to the public, regulators and members.
There is a monthly newsletter. FGWA supports the efforts of the
Associated Industry of Florida and the Florida Section of the
American Water Resources Association.
The 1998 convention will be held January 21-23 at Orlando.

Founded in 1929 as the Iowa Water Well Drillers Association, the
mission of the Iowa Water Well Association (IWWA) is to maintain
an organization to assist, promote, encourage and support the
interests and welfare of the water well industries in the state
of Iowa. The IWWA represents water system contractors,
manufacturers, suppliers, regulatory and educational personnel.
The organization is governed by a board of not less than 10, at
least four of whom are water system contractors (drillers and
pump installers), and at least one manufacturer or supplier..
As of May 1997, there were 84 contractor members, 31
manufacturer and supplier members and 19 associate members.
There were also 8 lifetime members.
Committees of the IWWA include membership, finance, nominations,
conventions, legislation, districts & education, rural water,
bylaws, and manufacturers/suppliers. The IWWA offers
informational brochures to the public, regulators and members.
There is a bi-monthly newsletter (no advertising), and an annual
convention program (advertising accepted). IWWA supports the
public education efforts of The American Ground Water Trust and
is a part of the Iowa/Illinois Safety Council. Each May, the
IWWA organizes an annual Children's Water Festival, and twice a
year holds continuing education seminars. The annual convention
offers 10 of the 20 hours of continuing education required each
year by the state Department of Natural Resources.
The 1999 convention will be held January 28-30 in Des Moines.

The Empire State Water Well Drillers Association, founded in 1941, is
committed in taking a leadership role in protecting our natural
resources through the promotion of the ground water industry.
The Association will strive to support a spirit of cooperation
and communication within the industry and between consumers
and regulatory agencies.
Annual dues for contractors/drillers and suppliers is $100.
As of January 1998, there were 140 contractors/drillers,
47 suppliers, and 3 engineers/geologists.
Standing committees of the ESWWDA include membership,
budget, insurance and safety, legislative, education,
POA&M (Plan of Actions and Milestones), audit and finance,
insurance and safety, past-presidents, Mid-Atlantic, and scholarship.
Association benefits include a scholarship program and continuing
education/certification testing.
The membership consists of water well contractors, manufacturers
and suppliers, pump suppliers, engineers, and hydrogeologists.
There is a quarterly newsletter, Holetalk, and a summer technical program
with certification exam at every function. ESWWDA is a member of
the American Groundwater Trust.
The Fall 1998 meeting will be October 17 at Lake George, New York.
The 1998 annual meeting will be held January 21 in Rome, New York.
The 1999 annual meeting will be held January 20 in Rome, New York.
Suppliers are welcome for table top displays.

Founded in the 1930s, the mission of the Ohio Water Well
Association is to promote, assist and encourage the water well
industry in Ohio and to improve methods of well construction.
The OWWA represents water system contractors, manufacturers,
suppliers, regulatory personnel, consultants, and other ground
water professionals. The organization is governed by a
23-member board of 18 contractors and 5 manufacturers or
suppliers.
Annual dues are $100 and $130 for contractors; $130 for
manufacturers and suppliers; and $40 for associates. As of May
1997, there were 130 contractor members, 30 manufacturer and
supplier members and 5 associate members.
Committees of the OWWA include legislative, education, rural
water and safety. The OWWA offers informational brochures to
the public, regulators and members. A well construction
conference is held every other year. There is a monthly
newsletter (no advertising), and an annual convention program
(advertising accepted). The Association has formed a workers
compensation group rating program. OWWA supports the public
education efforts of The American Ground Water Trust.
The 1998 convention will be held November 5 and 6 and the 1999
convention will be November 22-23.

Founded in 1950 as the Pennsylvania Water Well Contractors
Association, the objectives of the Pennsylvania Ground Water
Association (PGWA) are to assist, promote, encourage, and
support the interests and welfare of the water well industry in
all phases within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Also, to
aid and promote scientific education, standards, research, and
techniques in order to improve methods of well construction and
development, and to advance the science of ground water
hydrology. PGWA also promotes harmony with governmental and
scientific agencies relative to the proper development and
protection of underground water supplies. The PGWA is a
voluntary, non-profit corporation open to all industries and
persons engaged in drilling or construction of water wells; pump
installers; manufacturers or suppliers; and to persons teaching
or perfecting related technology, or evaluating or developing
water resources in Pennsylvania. The organization is governed
by a board of 9 members elected at large and 1
manufacturer/supplier and 1 past president.
As of June 1997, there were 128 contractor members, 5 pump
installers, 60 manufacturer and supplier members, 4 professional
members, and 58 associate members. There were also 2 lifetime
members.
Committees of the PGWA include finance; standards, research, and
ethics; bylaws; nominations; awards; membership; legislative;
Mid-Atlantic Expo; and education. There is a newsletter (no
advertising). PGWA supports the efforts of the Pennsylvania
Coalition of Construction Associations, the Construction
Industry Task Force, and Pennsylvania One Call.
The 1999 convention will be held January 28-30.
