NGWA Position Statement On Drill Rig Study Comments

Background: The Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act mandated a study of the impact of weight limitations and restrictions for water well drilling equipment.

Recommended Position:

  • To support practices that contribute to the genuine safety of worker but do not create an administrative burden.

  • To differentiate between long-haul commercial carriers and transport vehicles for function specific heavy equipment.

  • To institute progressive enforcement instead of retrofit regulations.

  • To encourage exchange of information resulting in design and production of functional yet safe weight sensitive heavy equipment, tools, and instruments for the ground water industry.

  • To institute weight modifications in a manner which does not sentence manufacturers to economic ruin.
