Instructions for
Contributors
Ground Water Monitoring and Remediation reports the results of original research on all aspects of ground water monitoring and remediation, including design, implementation, and maintenance of monitoring, treatment, and remediation systems; legislative and regulatory mandates; technological innovations; and studies of soil and ground water contamination.
Manuscripts
Manuscripts reporting on any aspect of ground water monitoring and remediation including design, implementation, and maintenance of monitoring, treatment, and remediation systems; legislative and regulatory mandates; technological innovations; studies of ground water contamination, ground water sampling equipment, and techniques; and soil and aquifer restoration are accepted. Manuscripts should be prepared with careful attention to published work related to the subject.
Titles
Titles of papers should be both concise and precise, and should not exceed 120 characters and spaces in length.
Authors
Each author's full name, accompanied by a footnote reference stating present affiliation and mailing address, should appear on the first page of the paper.
Abstracts
An abstract must accompany each manuscript. The abstract should be no longer than 300 words and should be a concise summary of the essential information contained within the paper, not a mere recital of the subjects covered in the paper. Expressions such as "is discussed" or "is described" should never be used. The abstract should be suitable for separate publication.
Text
All manuscripts must be typed on one side of the page only, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins. Papers must be typed or printed in a standard, readable typeface at 10 characters per inch. The original manuscript and six copies should be submitted to expedite prepublication review. The manuscript should be divided into sections, each with an appropriate heading. Divisions should be adequate to make organization of the manuscript effective without destroying the continuity of the text. Express measurements in English units; give metric units in parentheses. Particular attention should be given to the legibility of mathematical expressions; special symbols should be properly identified. All super- and subscript numbers and letters should be clearly stated. Please show parentheses around equations as they should appear typeset.
Tables and Figures
Material suited to tabular form should be arranged as a table and typewritten on a separate sheet. Tables must be numbered according to their sequence in the text and each should have a title. Titles of tables should be typewritten on a separate sheet. Column headings should be short and self-explanatory; more complete explanation may be given in footnotes to the table.Important Guidelines for Creating Art (click here)
It is highly recommended that authors follow these guidelines to ensure that their published figures are of the highest quality possible.Figure captions should be typed on a separate sheet. All figures should be labeled with the figure number and senior author's last name in the lower right-hand corner. Example: Figure 1, Smith.
Photographs should be submitted as 5" by 7" black and white glossy prints. Explanations and descriptions must be made within the text for each illustration. Captions should be typed on a separate sheet of paper and affixed to the back of the photo.
References
References should be indicated in the text by the insertion in parentheses of the author's name and the year of publication. If the author's name is part of the text, only the year should appear in parentheses. At the end of the paper, references should be listed alphabetically by author's last name (with first and middle initials), followed by year of publication, title, work in which the reference appears, volume and number, and first and last pages of the reference. Carefully check your references for accuracy and correlation with text citations. Only cited references should be listed at the end. Example: Diamond, N.S. 1979. Ground water monitoring at sanitary landfills. Ground Water News 7, no. 2: 6-10.
Acknowledgments
Acknowledgments should be made only for significant contributions by the author's professional associates.
Biographical Sketches
Each contributing author should furnish a 100-word or less biographical sketch. Bios must be in paragraph form; no resumes will be accepted. Full mailing addresses for each author (phone, fax, and e-mail information for senior author) should appear with each sketch.
Prepublication Review and Revision
Authors are encouraged to have colleagues carefully review their manuscripts prior to submittal to the journal for peer review. Every manuscript is reviewed by members of the Editorial Review Board or by external reviewers. If revisions are necessary, the senior author will be provided with reviewers' comments and suggestions and given an opportunity to revise the paper.
Galley Proofs
Copies of galley proofs of accepted papers will be sent to the senior author for prepublication review. Galleys should be returned within three days to allow for timely publication.
Page Charges
No charge for first seven pages; US$200 for each page exceeding seven will be billed to the author. This page charge exists primarily to provide incentive to authors to use brevity in presenting their work to the scientific community. When they are unable to do so, the charge supports the additional financial burden placed upon the publication. Authors should estimate four double-spaced manuscript pages as equal to approximately one typeset (10 pt.) page. A page charge form should be submitted with the original manuscript. Obtain a page charge form (and additional "Tips for Authors") from Colleen Murphy, Manuscript Coordinator, Ground Water Monitoring and Remediation.
Forum Articles
Follow the same guidelines as given for manuscript preparation. Forum articles are accepted at the discretion of the editor and may or may not be peer-reviewed. The same page charge policy is applied.
